Insurance Backed Guarantees – Important!

From the 6th June 2014 it is a requirement that ALL domestic customers MUST be provided with an Insurance Backed Guarantee rather than just offered one.

The Milford Window Company have always provided Insurance Backed Guarantees to ALL domestic customers and deposit protection so no change for us.

Whoever you choose to install your windows and doors ensure that you are going to be provided with this valuable document before you sign the contract!

Having an Insurance Backed Guarantee in place insures your windows and doors for the life of the guarantee should the installer go out of business.

Considering a conservatory?

Are you considering a conservatory to add much needed space to your home? Maybe you need some space to entertain, eat or just chill out?  Not sure if you require planning permission or not?  Your first port of call should be your Local Authority Planning Portal. The Planning Portal offers a simple mini-guide to what is deemed permitted development. For example, here is the link to the Waverley Planning Portal “Guide to Planning Permission” to get you started.

If you require planning permission, don’t panic!  We will help you through the whole process from the design, submitting the planning application and of course the build!

Some tips to help you choose your double glazing installer

  • Wherever possible use a company that has come recommended to you.  Failing that, ask your Local Authority to recommend a company.
  • Are they well established?  Ask the company for references and/or to view a recent installation they have completed.
  • Use a FENSA registered installer to ensure you receive a certificate confirming that their replacement windows or doors comply with Building Regulations.
  • The cheapest is not always the best.  Make sure your quotes are “like for like”.  A very cheap quote could mean the company are financially unsound.
  • Ensure your guarantee is insurance backed.
  • Does the company employ their own fitters or are they sub-contractors?  An actual employee of the company is more than likely to have been trained to the company’s standard and specification.
  • Using a local company as opposed to a company that is 20-30 miles away ensures that any remedial works are likely to be done efficiently.
  • View the product if possible.
